The core technological advantage of anti-yellowing car coatings lies not in their thickness, but in the molecular-level selection of polyurethane raw materials. Conventional car coatings use aromatic isocyanates (MDI/TDI) to synthesize TPU-based films; the benzene ring structure in these films is prone to undergo quinone rearrangement reactions when exposed to ultraviolet radiation and oxygen, generating a yellow chromophore – this is the chemical root cause of the noticeable yellowing observed in the vast majority of low-grade car coatings within six months to one year. In contrast, anti-yellowing car coatings employ aliphatic isocyanates (HDI/IPDI) as the hard segment raw material; since the molecular chains do not contain benzene rings, the UV-induced photooxidation pathway is completely blocked, thereby preventing yellowing at its source.
